I think that John Edwards might be the only Democrat willing to take some risks. He's stressing financial dicipline and fairness in the tax code. Good stuff.

Warrior N4359D

This is the plane in which I did my first solo. Shona was waiting for me while I was out doing a later solo and managed to get some shots of me in the plane. However, I was taking off and landing on runway 10 which is about as far away from the observation point as you can get. So I've got some nice pictures of the sky with a little dot that I'm told is me.

Creep factor 11. I wonder if this guy had a woman in his basement when I bought that vehicle off of him? It scares me to think that he might have. I did buy van off of him, after all. I've used the phrase "molester mobile" in the past to describe those windowless vans that you see driving around, but I never expected that to come true. It kind of makes me happy to know that I never actually got to drive the thing since it was in such bad shape.

Holy fuck, it's June already.

Andrew Leonard on the AOL/Microsoft payoff where I am quoted. (Yeah, I know, it's subscription only. I pay. You should, too.)

It's odd that he thinks that I'm blasé about Mozilla's future, when that couldn't be further from the truth. I am blasé about AOL's involvement as a reaction to AOL who has always been lukewarm about Mozilla. I appreciate their work, sure, but I've always been underwhelmed at their commitment to what could have been a historic opportunity. Just like most large companies they are highly risk averse and have chosen their fate as a company that will be boring but profitable as opposed to a leader and maybe unprofitable but possibly wildly profitable. They could have chosen to lead the web into the next generation, but instead they are just going to sit back and let Microsoft call all the shots.

At least Steve Jobs is around to show that someone has the balls to still make waves in the web space. I still think he should have chosen Gecko because we're way ahead of KHTML and Opera, but at least he didn't dance with the devil and choose IE. Plus, Gecko provides an excellent migration path because it is cross platform and I don't see any non-Gecko non-IE browsers in use on Windows at this point. That's the path to success, guys. I hate to say it but it goes right through Redmond.

Ahem. That was kind of wandering. Anyway.

Joel seems to have discovered Mozilla Firebird and he likes it. After bashing us for quite a while in his columns as an example of how not-to-develop-software (yeah, we get it, it was a mistake and we all know it, can we let it go now?) it's nice to see him finally enjoying the fruits of our labour. We suck less. I can't wait for us to switch over to using that as the basis for our mainline browser.
