11:09pm: last instrument flying of the year

Tonight I went out to do my last instrument flying of the year. There are few things as exciting as doing the ILS RWY 17 at MHT at 150mph right down to 200 feet over the ground. You see the runway lights appear out of the gray gloom and you realize exactly how close you are to the cold, hard earth. And you're moving. Won't see that for another five or six months.

3:06pm: modular X lands in rawhide

Today Modular X landed in rawhide. This has been a Herculean Task by the people involved, including the upstream X folks, our internal Red Hat X team and lots of other Red Hat people who burned a huge amount of midnight oil to make it happen.

Just to give you an idea, the new X packages comprise at least 125 source packages not to mention all of the changes that have to happen to all of the other packages in the distribution to support it. Buildrequires changes, path changes, patches, installer changes - a huge effort. But it had to happen and I'm glad we've gotten over the biggest of the hurdles.

12:23pm: the price of flying

Wide-Flying Moguls: Google Duo's New Jet Is a Boeing 767-200

Flying a used 767 with a functional but not lavish VIP interior would cost an average of about $13,000 per flight-hour, compared with $7,850 for a Gulfstream V, according to Conklin & deDecker Aviation Information, an Orleans, Mass., research and consulting firm. That includes both variable costs such as fuel and fixed items such as crew salaries, maintenance and depreciation.

I stretch my finances to spend $150/hr to fly in the C-182 in my association. The cost/hr for those larger just is just staggering and just points out how little money I make when compared with the super-rich.
