I am jack’s tendency for understatement

This quote is taken directly from a comment on an image on Jack’s Facebook page. This image depicts the needle on a speedometer clearly held at one hundred and twenty miles per hour. Says Jack about this image [emphasis mine]:

The computer limits the speed to 155. I actually did 154 in Slovkia on the highway to Bratislava and then in Italy again on the A4, but obviously (!) anything over 120 is unsafe to take pictures at.

And I thought this was dangerous enough! Indeed, I need more of that Bavarian-inspired confidence!

Are you sure these were mph and not km/h? 154 mph (248 km/h) is WAY above the speed limits in Italy, if you get caught with that, you lose your driver’s license, get a really expensive fine and probably even get arrested for reckless driving!

Many cars are electronically limited to 250km/h which is about 155mph so miles per hour seem plausible to me.

Despite that I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving as fast as this outside an A) suitably clear, B) unlimited (for the sake of my driver’s license) stretch of the C) Autobahn (where other drivers at least aren’t totally surprised by it) with D) a suitable car.

Oh, it was definitely 120mp/h, not km/h. That km number was right there, too.

In theory my car is also limited electronically to 155mph but I’ve never taken it anywhere near that fast. No, sir.

  4. Kevin,

Hahaha, Jack fears no police. Not in the US and especially not in Europe. Anyway, on the A4 there are barely ever any cops and its a straight shot at one point for about 20 miles.

You haven’t felt scared until you’ve done 240km/h (~150mph) on a motorcycle. I did that early on a sunday morning on the 401 near Toronto once when I was 18…

I did 105 on the back of the ZX-11 once. And, ironically, that was entirely by accident. No way I was going faster than that.
