just declared email bankruptcy

I just deleted my entire email Inbox.  800 unread wasn’t something I was going to fight my way back from.  So if you sent me something that you think I should really look at and respond to, send it again.  Otherwise it’s gone forever.

Not sure what email you use, but Gmail works really well for me. Filtering all the ‘not so important’ stuff like mailing listings away from my inbox saves me many messages. I’m sure Merlin Mann has some other great tips too.

From experience, it’s not so much the software as the simple fact of 800 unread emails. Good filtering helps reduce the noise, particularly for automated bugzilla notifications and the like, but the fact remains that you’ve still got a huge number of unread messages that you know you’re never going to have time to read. About all you can do is delete them so they’re no longer hanging around.

Just in case you haven’t heard about this approach already, http://www.43folders.com/izero

(that guy also did a talk at google, you can find it on google video).

I confirm that it works, it did take me months to learn the habit of keeping the inbox clean, deleting/archiving the rest, but worksforme.

  6. I have seen a lot of people doing inbox zero. I haven’t looked into it, though.
